Workplace Assessor
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Workplace Assessor to support the development of vocational skills and industry standards within the hospitality sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing learners undertaking work-based qualifications such as Modern Apprenticeships in Hospitality (e.g., SCQF Level 5–7), ensuring they meet the required occupational standards in line with the awarding body and Skills Development Scotland (SDS) frameworks.
This role involves planning and carrying out assessments in the workplace, providing constructive feedback, and supporting learners to achieve their qualifications.
The Assessor will work closely with employers and internal verifiers to maintain quality assurance and compliance, while also fostering a culture of continuous improvement, customer service excellence, and Fair Work principles.
Vacancies currently exist in Glasgow (Strathclyde areas) and Tayside & Fife.
Qualifications & Experience
As a Workplace Assessor, the successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating and assessing the competency and skills of employees in their work environment to ensure they meet the required standards and qualifications as set out by several training and qualification regulatory bodies such as Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA), Skills Development Scotland (SDS) and Sector Skills Councils (SSC)
Key Responsibilities
Assessment Delivery - Conduct regular assessment visits to workplaces, providing constructive feedback and guidance to learners on their performance and identifying areas for improvement.
Assessment Competency - Observe and assess employees' practical skills and competencies in their workplace environment, ensuring they meet the national standards and occupational requirements.
Evidence Collection - Guide and support learners in gathering appropriate evidence of their competence, such as work samples, observations, witness testimonies, and written statements.
Effective Communication - Build rapport with learners, employers, MGT Training colleagues and regulatory bodies such as SQA and Skills Development Scotland.
Administration – Completing and maintaining accurate records and documents to both MGT Training Standards and Regulatory standards.
Essential Requirements
Mobility – Full category B driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points. Access to a car as travel across the region will be required to fulfil the role.
Flexibility - A willingness to work some evenings and weekends as client demand may dictate.
Personal Management – Efficiently manage own diary, liaising with relevant employers and learners to create an efficient working schedule.
Subject Knowledge – Strong knowledge of the Hospitality, Management, Retail and Business sectors is essential in the areas where training and assessment will be taking place.
Growth – To operate within an environment where introducing new clients to the business are an integral part of the role. Engage with employers and learners to enrol in the relevant qualification, meeting relevant sales targets.
Standards Familiarisation – Familiar with the standards and regulatory requirements of the SQA and other certification bodies including MA Online.
Occupational Competency in the following sectors: Hospitality, Management, Retail and Business.
Understanding of assessment principles, methodologies, and best practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with learners, employers, and training providers.
Holds a L&D9DI (Formally A1 assessors qualification)
Desirable Requirements
IT Proficiency – Proficient with Microsoft Products (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc) and other electronic software such as e-portfolios.
