Vice President of Construction
Location: Remote (Travel Required)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Louth Callan Renewables (LCR) is a nationally recognized EPC contractor, delivering end-to-end engineering, procurement, and construction solutions for utility-scale renewable energy projects, including solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), geothermal, and industrial power facilities. Our clients include independent power producers (IPPs), utilities, and developers seeking high-performance, schedule-driven, cost-controlled execution for complex energy infrastructure.
As one of the Top 25 EPCs in the United States, we are expanding rapidly and seeking a construction executive who thrives in fast-paced, mission-critical environments, with a proven ability to manage large-scale infrastructure projects from inception through commissioning.
Role Summary
The Vice President of Construction will provide executive oversight of all construction operations, ensuring technical excellence, schedule discipline, safety performance, and financial control across multiple concurrent projects ranging from 30 MW to 200 MW in scale.
This role is both strategic and operational, requiring a deep understanding of renewable energy systems, construction methodologies, field logistics, and self-perform execution. The VP of Construction will build and lead high-performing internal teams, interface with client stakeholders, manage subcontractor performance, and drive the standardization of LCR’s construction protocols and productivity KPIs.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Operations Management
- Lead project delivery teams through the entire EPC lifecycle, from pre-construction planning to mechanical completion and final commissioning.
- Develop and implement field execution plans, including sequence of work, phasing, resource allocation, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Build and institutionalize project controls systems (schedule, budget, earned value, productivity tracking) across all active sites.
Self-Perform Execution Oversight
- Define, scale, and optimize LCR’s in-house construction teams (civil, mechanical, electrical).
- Establish crew structures, installation SOPs, tool and equipment plans, and daily production metrics to optimize throughput and minimize rework.
- Deploy “lead from the front” methodology, performing field audits, installation support, and real-time coaching to field supervisors and foremen.
Engineering, Procurement, and Constructability Coordination
- Collaborate with in-house and third-party engineering teams during the design development and constructability review phases.
- Participate in vendor qualification, scope alignment, and technical procurement of long-lead materials (modules, inverters, trackers, switchgear, transformers, etc.).
- Validate delivery schedules, preassembly strategies, and laydown yard logistics for major equipment.
Contract Administration & Risk Mitigation
- Lead negotiation and execution of prime contracts, subcontracts, and change orders to ensure clarity of scope, equitable risk distribution, and alignment with project execution strategy.
- Implement robust QA/QC programs in alignment with client technical specifications and industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NEC, IEC, UL, ASTM, etc.).
- Oversee compliance with OSHA 1926 and NFPA 70E safety standards, including JHA protocols, training documentation, and incident tracking.
Reporting and Executive Communication
- Provide regular updates to the executive leadership team on project milestones, construction KPIs, budget variance, and operational risks.
- Support business development teams with pre-bid constructability assessments, rough-order-of-magnitude pricing, and resource forecasting.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of construction experience in the renewable energy or power generation sectors, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven ability to deliver utility-scale EPC projects (50 MW+) on time and within budget, ideally across multiple technologies (PV, BESS, geothermal, hydrogen, or wind).
Technical Competencies
- Expertise in construction of ground-mounted solar arrays (fixed-tilt and single-axis tracking), MV electrical systems, and substation interconnects.
- Deep understanding of DC/AC balance-of-system design, trenching and cable installation, pile driving, racking systems, inverter skid installation, and SCADA commissioning.
- Experience implementing and scaling construction management software platforms such as Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project, Bluebeam, or Autodesk Build.
Leadership and Execution
- Demonstrated success in building and mentoring large, multidisciplinary teams across geographically distributed job sites.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to interpret job cost reports, schedule-of-values, and project cash flow projections.
- Willingness and availability to travel frequently to remote job sites, including the ability to spend extended periods in the field when necessary.
What We Offer
- Executive-level compensation and benefits package.
- Opportunity to shape the construction vision and strategy of a top-tier renewable EPC.
- Dynamic, growth-oriented company culture focused on technical excellence, field empowerment, and clean energy impact.
