Stanford Under One Umbrella Social Media Internship

Development Communications Intern Job Description:

The Development Communications team in Stanford University’s Medical Center Development (MCD) department is looking for a social media intern to assist in expanding and managing outreach to supporters via social media. MCD's Development Communications supports Under One Umbrella, a highly successful event over the years that raises millions of dollars for the Stanford Women's Cancer Center (SWCC) through a generous community of supporters. While the event itself occurs in March, we aim to post frequently throughout the year on stories involving SWCC research and care to target, attract, and cultivate a larger audience of supporters.

We are looking for someone who can convey ideas through social media with clear and engaging text and images that highlight Stanford’s unique contributions to cancer care and research and inspire a broad online audience to give. We are hoping to fill this position before the start of spring, and have the position begin in January of 2025 for a period of six months, for 15-20 hours a week.

Responsibilities:

• Search online news sources like Stanford Medicine News (med.stanford.edu/news), Scope (https://scopeblog.stanford.edu/), and any other established sources (with Google Alert, etc.) for content related to Stanford cancer care and research that can be developed into focused social media posts.

• Report to and work closely with the Digital Community Specialist in Stanford Medicine's Office of Medical Center Development as well as high-level volunteers and thought leaders to build awareness and inspire support of the important work in research and patient care at the Stanford Women's Cancer Center.

• Post content via our platforms, the Under One Umbrella Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/StanfordWomensCancerCenter/) and Stanford Cancer Institute Twitter account (https://twitter.com/stanfordcancer) that focuses on advances in cancer research and patient stories, as well as promoting opportunities for donors to support our cancer funds via giving links. Between three and five original posts (not including straight retweets or shares) weekly on average (total, not for each platform separately).

• Spend one hour per week researching ways to increase our visibility and engagement via social media.

Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of Facebook and Twitter
  • Familiarity with image creation/editing via Photoshop or other image editing software, like Canva, to crop, frame, highlight, and similarly arrange images and text
  • Familiarity with Facebook and Twitter analytics and promotions/advertising is a plus, but not required and can be taught

*This is a remote position open to U.S.-based candidates only. Applicants must be authorized to work in and currently living in the United States.
