About The Role

The Senior Business Analyst is the analytical lead for the Disruption Management portfolio, responsible for mapping end‑to‑end processes, identifying operational gaps, defining business requirements, validating system performance, and ensuring new capabilities reflect frontline needs across OCC, Airports, Contact Centers, and Guest Support.

This role is central to evolving WestJet’s guest reaccommodation platform, interline recovery flows, scenario readiness, regulatory compliance workflows, and overall improvements to network disruption.

Key Responsibilities

Discovery & Analysis

  • Lead discovery workshops with OCC, Airports, Contact Centers, Digital, Product, and regulatory teams.
  • Map current-state vs. future-state processes for cancellation, delay, automated reaccommodation and regulatory compensation, reaccommodation process flows, inventory sync, partner operations, and messaging.
  • Identify gaps, constraints, dependencies, and opportunities based on frontline experience and data.

Requirements & Documentation

  • Develop clear, operationally accessible business requirements for platform enhancements and service improvements.
  • Write user stories, acceptance criteria, decision logs, non-functional requirements, and cross-functional process updates.
  • Maintain validated process architecture for all disruption-handling flows.

Operational Validation & Testing

  • Define test scenarios and acceptance criteria that reflect real operational complexity.
  • Participate in UAT, scenario simulations, and quarterly “table-top” mock disruptions.
  • Validate system behaviour against regulatory (APPR/DOT/EU261) compliance requirements.

Measurement & Insights

  • Define process KPIs, operational value measures, usability feedback loops, and readiness indicators.
  • Translate operational pain points into actionable recommendations.
  • Provide insights for continuous improvement and future roadmap planning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, data analytics, or related field and/or related experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in delivering complex, cross‑functional business analysis within operationally intensive environments.
  • Proven ability to independently lead discovery, elicitation, and facilitation sessions; synthesize inputs across Operations, Product, Engineering, and frontline teams.
  • Track record of producing clear, testable requirements, process flows, and acceptance criteria that withstand operational and regulatory scrutiny.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate between operational and technical stakeholders and influence decision‑making.
  • Recognized Business Analysis certification, such as CBAP, CCBA, PMI‑PBA, or equivalent.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in aviation operations (e.g., OCC, Airports, Guest Operations, Contact Center).
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (APPR, DOT, EU261) and their implications for requirements, testing, and operational controls.

What Success Looks Like

  • Clear, high‑quality requirements that translate complex operational needs into precise, testable user stories and acceptance criteria that accelerate delivery and reduce rework.
  • Accurate, streamlined process documentation that enables Operations, Product, and Engineering to operate from a shared understanding of current‑state and future‑state workflows.
  • Scenario‑based testing and validation that reflects true operational complexity across OCC, Airports, and Contact Centers, ensuring solutions are stable, compliant, and ready for frontline use.
  • Effective cross‑functional facilitation, resulting in aligned decisions, well‑managed trade‑offs, and consistent clarity across operational and technical stakeholders.
  • Proactive identification of risks, constraints, and regulatory impacts, with clear recommendations that support safe, efficient, and compliant disruption‑recovery processes.
  • Strong operational partnership, evidenced by trust from frontline teams, responsiveness to feedback, and the ability to translate real-world challenges into actionable improvements.
  • Demonstrated ownership and independence, showing the maturity expected of a Sr. BA through reliable execution, consistent follow‑through, and the ability to drive work forward without constant oversight.
