Software QA Engineer (Manual Tester)

We are a startup building a private two-sided marketplace that connects clients with service providers. We also build dashboards for providers and internal operations. We are in a private build phase and growing our team.
Role Description
This is a full-time remote role for a Software QA Engineer (Manual Tester). You will work closely with product, design, and engineering to ensure our releases are stable and meet quality standards across client, provider, and admin experiences.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain test plans, test cases, and regression checklists
- Perform manual testing (smoke, functional, regression, exploratory) for the web app and dashboards
- Test end-to-end marketplace flows across roles (client, provider, admin)
- Validate key workflows such as signup/login, onboarding, profiles, and account management
- Test request, response, and booking lifecycle flows (create request, provider responses, acceptance, updates, cancellations, completion)
- Validate marketplace rules and edge cases (availability, coverage areas, lead times, capacity limits, pricing rules if applicable)
- Validate data accuracy on reports and dashboards (filters, search, exports, calculations, totals)
- Test role-based access control and permissions across different user types
- Write clear bug reports with steps to reproduce, severity/priority, environment, and evidence (screenshots or recordings)
- Verify fixes and run regression tests before release sign-off
- Support release readiness checks (acceptance criteria coverage, test evidence, release checklist completion)
- Collaborate daily with product, design, and engineering using remote tools
- Suggest and help introduce test automation over time for stable, repeatable flows
Qualifications
Must-have
- Strong manual software testing skills and attention to detail
- Good understanding of QA processes, defect lifecycle, and release testing
- Experience writing test cases and executing structured test cycles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills for remote work (clear written updates and bug reports)
- API testing experience (Postman or similar)
- Basic SQL skills for validating marketplace and dashboard/report data
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Nice-to-have
- Familiarity with Jira (or similar tracking tools)
- Experience testing multi-role products (client/provider/admin)
- Experience with automation tools (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium)
- Experience supporting release sign-off, quality gates, or quality audits
