Senior Front-End Developer

Published

Gravity Works is looking for a senior-level front-end developer to join our collaborative, communicative team. We are excited to find skilled candidates who enjoy the work they do on the web, and who see value in the impact their work can have.

Our front-end developers turn mockups into responsive, accessible websites. We typically use a content management system like Drupal or WordPress. The front-end role includes site building and architecture, as well as component-based theme development with modern HTML, Sass-based CSS, and JavaScript. Gravity Works is committed to following accessibility best practices and modern web standards. As technology grows and evolves, we evolve too: together as a team, we are always learning about and trying new techniques, standards, and tools.

At the senior level, developers are expected to be willing to pair with and answer questions from other developers to help advance the skills of the front-end team as a whole. Candidates should have experience in both CMS development and modern front-end best practices, including a commitment to building accessible solutions, while understanding that there is always more to learn. Pairing sessions are meant to be collaborative and constructive, focusing on solving problems and building knowledge. Additionally, senior developers are often involved in leading architectural and planning work, including meeting attendance with client stakeholders and Gravity Works project managers to clarify project requirements, provide estimates, and develop the project’s technical approach.

Each developer is part of a production team led by a project manager. But we also regularly communicate as a cross-functional development team. We work with a wide range of clients and projects, as a consulting company. Teamwork is critical, but you will need to independently manage your time and tasks.

Gravity Works is a fully remote company. We have been 100% remote since March 2020 due to COVID-19, but about a quarter of our team is located in the Lansing, Michigan area and occasionally works together in person, while others continue to work fully remotely. We have employees in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, Mississippi, Wisconsin, and Florida. We stay in touch throughout the day with Slack and Asana, and we use tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet to handle remote meetings. The front-end team has been fully distributed since 2017 and is accustomed to remote communication and teamwork.

To apply for this position, please submit your information through LinkedIn. We'd love to hear from you even if you don't meet 100% of the requirements. We are looking for a full-time employee to join the Gravity Works team—no agencies or recruiters.
