Product Engineer

About Katapult Labs

Katapult Labs brings together exceptional LATAM talent and leading-edge technology to help scale U.S. startups. With an AI-first approach, we create world-class solutions in product, engineering, and business growth. We partner with top founders from networks like 8VC and Action Capital — experienced operators building venture-backed companies.

The Role

We are looking for a Product Engineer / Founding-Style Engineer to join as a force multiplier in a high-performance, founder-engineer shop. This isn’t a role for "ticket-takers"; we need someone who acts as a partner in building custom web and AI systems for mid-market clients.

You will own end-to-end delivery, making opinionated architectural decisions and moving with extreme agency. We prioritize speed, tinkering, and interest over corporate scaling experience. We aren't worried about scaling Kubernetes or complex AWS infra; we are worried about shipping high-impact features that solve real business problems using a modern, AI-native workflow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own features from the initial domain model to production, focusing on user-centric functionality and business goals rather than just writing code.
  • Use AI (Claude Code + Codex) as your primary power tool for coding, refactoring, and migrations to achieve 10x output without sacrificing correctness.
  • Ship fast by focusing on "actional functional aspects" and high-leverage tests (money, permissions, critical workflows) instead of chasing 90% test coverage for the sake of it.
  • Work directly with the founder to translate vague requirements into deterministic, predictable software primitives.
  • Take a problem and find the solution. You should be comfortable connecting to Supabase or debugging a React hook without needing a guide, saving your questions for complex business logic.

Requirements

  • A "scrappy" profile with a bias toward action. We value younger, high-agency talent who has built side projects, indie apps, or contributed to OSS.
  • Strong experience in TypeScript and the modern web stack (React/Next-like, Postgres-like DBs).
  • You must use AI tools daily. Specifically, a workflow involving Claude Code + Codex High to handle complex tasks end-to-end. If you aren't cross-checking with multiple models, you aren't moving fast enough for us.
  • 2–3 concrete projects where you owned the full stack. You must be able to explain the domain model, the architecture, and the trade-offs you made.
  • Ability to speak "plain language" with business stakeholders and explain technical constraints concisely.
  • You don't need hyper-detailed specs; you thrive in the "tinkering" phase and can mock up solutions quickly.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Convex, Drizzle, or Supabase.
  • Personal projects involving Knowledge Graphs, Openclaw, or independent AI agents.
  • A belief that monoliths are often the right choice for speed and simplicity.
  • Ability to perform a live AI-assisted coding test (e.g., a condensed PR or a partial migration task) to demonstrate your workflow in real-time.
