You’ve gotten good at the core work, and now you’ll take on the trickier stuff with guidance
Position: Permanent
Work environment: Remote
Location: Alberta or British Columbia
Salary: $95,000 - $115,000
Position Overview
Hammehr invites applications for the role of Network Consultant on behalf of our client for a full-time permanent opportunity. In this role, success means easing the load on a high-performing team member by stepping into complex network projects with confidence, care, and a willingness to learn. The company helps organizations move forward by making their IT systems more reliable, secure, and thoughtfully designed. This role is great for someone looking for autonomy, cares about deadlines, and has a curiosity continuous learning nature.
What You’ll Do
- Jump into network projects where the scope is clear but the path isn’t always
- Support a teammate who’s stretched thin by sharing the technical and emotional load
- Work directly with clients to troubleshoot issues without overexplaining or overpromising
- Join project calls where your input shapes what actually gets built
- Help rewire legacy setups into something cleaner, faster, and more maintainable
- Navigate moments when no one has the answer and figure it out together
- Make thoughtful tradeoffs when perfect solutions don’t fit real-world constraints
- Document just enough so others know what you did and why it worked
Basic Qualifications
- 7+ years in complex network environments, with enough hands-on experience to spot brittle setups before they break
- Proven background in wired and wireless network design, so you can build systems that work in real-world conditions, not just in theory
- Direct experience with Palo Alto and Meraki devices, because those make up most of the current project load
- Familiarity with Zscaler or similar platforms, so you can navigate modern security needs without getting lost in the acronyms
Preferred Qualifications
- You’ve worked alongside a senior teammate before and know how to support without stepping on toes
- Experience in client-facing consulting roles where trust matters as much as technical skill
- You’ve handled network escalations solo and can stay steady when the root cause isn’t obvious
- You’ve mentored junior colleagues and know how to teach without sounding like a gatekeeper
- Comfort navigating vague requests and making progress without a project manager mapping your day
The Challenges
- Some client networks are brittle and undocumented, which means you’ll be reverse-engineering as you go
- The teammate you’ll be supporting is excellent and exhausted, and won’t always have time to slow down
- No one’s planning your day for you — you’ll need to set your own pace and ask for help when needed
Your Impact
- Free up a high-performing teammate so the team can take on more projects without burning out
- Help clients feel supported during messy transitions by making their networks more stable and secure
- Give the broader team space to grow by bringing fresh judgment and hands-on support where it counts
