Life Science Communications Fellowship – Fall 2025
- Location: Remote, in the state of Michigan
- Duration: 10–12 weeks
- Commitment: 5–10 hours/week (starting Sept 8)
- Hourly Wage: $35–$50/hour, commensurate with experience
- Employment Type: Part-Time, Temporary (W-2 Fellowship)
Are you curious about how early-stage science and health innovations become scalable, fundable ventures? Join us as a Life Science Communications Fellow this fall to gain hands-on experience supporting startups and researchers navigating the innovation ecosystem.
Fellows will work closely with our team to support the Strategic Partnership Playbook, an initiative designed to help innovators strengthen funding proposals, sharpen communications, and build meaningful partnerships.
What You’ll Do:
Market Research & Analysis
- Conduct secondary research for early-stage grant applications (e.g., SBIR, STTR)
- Use university libraries, public databases, and reliable sources to uncover relevant insights
- Participate in internal research training sessions
Science Communication
- Learn to translate technical or scientific ideas into compelling content for public, funder, and stakeholder audiences
- Support client projects by shaping messaging, pitch materials, and storytelling approaches
- Attend a writing workshop focused on grant and lay audience communications
Visual Design & Communication
- Use design tools to create compelling visual materials, including infographics, pitch decks, and report visuals
- Apply tools like Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) to support clear and engaging science communication
- Option to contribute to visual storytelling strategy and branding efforts
Ecosystem Mapping & Outreach
- Identify and research 20+ regional companies and organizations in the innovation space
- Conduct interviews or surveys to assess innovation challenges and assets
- Analyze data and help compile findings into a regional ecosystem report

Ideal Candidate:
- Interested in life sciences, healthcare innovation, entrepreneurship, or science communication
- Strong writing and/or visual design skills, with attention to detail
- Comfortable working independently and collaborating in small teams
- Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms is a plus
- Experience with research, communications, or startups is welcome, but not required
Eligibility:
- Must be attending or recently graduated from an accredited 2- or 4-year college or university in Michigan, or reside in the state
- Eligible to work in the U.S. under a W-2 employment arrangement
