Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Utility-Scale Solar Estimator to join our growing renewable energy team. This role is responsible for analyzing project documentation, preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates, and supporting the preconstruction process from bid through project turnover. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with engineering, procurement, and field operations teams to develop competitive, technically sound proposals for large-scale solar projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze project drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and bid documents to determine project scope, risks, and requirements
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for utility-scale solar projects, including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and indirect costs
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and develop comprehensive material breakdowns aligned with project design and construction methodologies
  • Prepare and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) and submittals during the preconstruction phase
  • Collaborate with procurement to develop vendor pricing strategies and maintain current cost data for materials and equipment
  • Interface with engineering and field teams to evaluate installation methods, constructability, and opportunities to optimize material usage and reduce costs
  • Conduct site visits and assessments as needed to validate assumptions and gather critical estimating data
  • Utilize estimating software and industry tools to improve accuracy and efficiency in the bid process
  • Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain pricing, availability, and lead-time information
  • Review contracts and technical specifications to identify potential risks, scope gaps, and cost impacts
  • Support project managers during the handoff from estimating to execution to ensure scope clarity and budget alignment
  • Continuously monitor industry trends, market pricing, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies impacting utility-scale solar construction

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
  • Experience as a Solar Estimator or in a similar preconstruction role within the renewable energy or utility-scale construction sector
  • Field experience in solar construction (minimum 6 months preferred)
  • Strong understanding of utility-scale solar systems, installation methods, industry standards, and construction sequencing
  • Proficiency with estimating and design software such as AutoCAD, PVsyst, Bluebeam, or comparable platforms (preferred)
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to solar and renewable energy projects is a plus
