- Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of handwriting development, sentence construction, paragraph writing, narrative writing, informational writing, opinion writing, spelling patterns, punctuation, and the writing process. Ability to explain brainstorming, drafting, revising, and publishing stages while preparing elementary students for grade-level writing proficiency benchmarks and state assessment requirements.
- Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching age-appropriate writing mechanics, idea development, and organization for elementary learners. Guides students through forming complete sentences, constructing paragraphs with topic sentences, writing personal narratives with descriptive details, creating informational reports, and editing for spelling and punctuation. Emphasizes making writing enjoyable and connects writing instruction to reading, science journals, and creative expression.
- Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with elementary writing standards and common challenges such as organizing ideas coherently, generating writing content, and applying spelling rules consistently. Adapts instruction using graphic organizers, mentor texts, interactive writing activities, and positive feedback to support young writers from kindergarten through fifth grade building confidence and skill in narrative, informational, and opinion writing genres.
- Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
