TITLE: Director of Transportation and Logistics

SALARY: $100,000 - $125,000 DOE
Position Overview
The Director of Transportation and Logistics owns all post-production physical flow and order execution across B2B and DTC channels. This role is accountable for transportation strategy, 3PL warehouse performance, DTC fulfillment operations, parcel optimization, returns management, and customer service execution.
This leader ensures scalable, cost-efficient, and service-driven logistics infrastructure aligned with company growth objectives. The role translates commercial growth plans into operational execution while protecting margin, improving service performance, and maintaining compliance.
Key Responsibilities
A. Transportation Strategy & Execution
· Develop and execute national freight strategy across inbound and outbound lanes.
· Lead carrier RFP/RFI processes, rate negotiations, and contract management.
· Optimize network design, routing, consolidation, and continuous move strategies.
· Ensure compliance with retailer routing guides and customer shipping standards.
· Oversee freight audit, claims management, and cost validation processes.
· Monitor carrier scorecards and service performance metrics.
B. Fulfillment & 3PL Operations
· Own 3PL warehouse performance, service levels, and cost management.
· Oversee DTC pick/pack/ship operations and parcel optimization strategy.
· Manage inventory accuracy, cycle count compliance, and shrink reduction.
· Lead returns processing strategy and cost control initiatives.
· Ensure operational readiness for promotions, launches, and peak demand periods.
C. Order Management & Systems
· Oversee end-to-end order lifecycle from entry through delivery and billing.
· Ensure ERP, WMS, TMS, and EDI integrations support accuracy and scalability.
· Drive process automation and system optimization initiatives.
· Maintain accurate operational data and reporting integrity.
D. Customer Service Operations
· Own customer service execution, including response time and resolution SLAs.
· Establish escalation protocols for service disruptions and issue resolution.
· Analyze root cause trends to reduce chargebacks, deductions, and complaints.
· Ensure alignment between service performance and commercial strategy.
Key Skills & Knowledge Areas
· Expertise in B2B and DTC logistics operations and supply chain optimization.
· Strong financial acumen with ability to manage freight cost and margin impact.
· Advanced ERP, TMS, WMS, and EDI system knowledge.
· Proven leadership of 3PL partnerships and vendor negotiations.
· Strong analytical skills and KPI-driven decision making.
· Continuous improvement mindset (Lean / Six Sigma preferred).
Qualifications & Experience
· 10+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain leadership (CPG preferred).
· 5+ years managing teams and third-party vendors.
· Experience leading integrated B2B and DTC logistics networks.
· Track record of delivering measurable service and cost improvements.
· Experience partnering cross-functionally with Sales, Finance, Marketing, and Operations.
Success Metrics
· Consistent achievement of OTIF and order accuracy targets.
· Improved logistics cost per case and parcel cost per order.
· DTC fulfillment SLA compliance (same-day / next-day ship rates).
· Reduction in chargebacks, deductions, and freight claims.
· Operational scalability aligned with commercial growth objectives.
