Director of Finance (6-Month Contract)


Our client is looking for a Director of Finance for a 6-month contract. The role is 100% remote.


Responsibilities:

Financial Operations:

  • Lead and oversee the operations of the accounting team including accounts payable, receivable, travel claims, and payroll
  • Ensure efficient monthly and annual close processes are in place to provide management and the Board with timely financial information.
  • Lead and oversee treasury management including preparation of regular cashflow. Establish a strategy to maximize the organization’s return.
  • Ensure the organization has appropriate financial policies in place and monitor compliance.
  • Oversee the development, review, implementation of financial policies, procedures and/or practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial and tax regulatory/statutory requirements and reporting

Financial Reporting:

  • Coordinate and prepare the annual financial statements
  • Oversee the preparation of ad hoc management reports and analysis

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Develop budgeting and forecasting processes, aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities
  • Lead the development of the annual budget and forecasts
  • Provide advice and assistance to the budget holders at headquarters concerning information needs and financial reporting requirement
  • Provide strategic advice regarding resource allocation, including risks and opportunities.

Year-End Audit:

  • Lead and coordinate the year-end audit process including preparation of year-end audit working papers
  • Coordinate the schedule of activities and deliverables for the Finance team
  • Ensure all HQ balances sheet reconciliations are completed in a timely manner as required to facilitate the year-end audit schedule
  • Liaise with the external auditors to assist them in their queries and support their work by providing additional information as required.

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Manage a team of finance professionals towards the achievement of functional objectives by providing guidance, support and direction; creates a climate such that staff are motivated and committed to the function’s mandate, objectives and focus to client services.
  • Establish a culture of continuous improvement and empowerment
  • Lead the team through process improvement and establish strong change management practice.
  • Identify, hire, inspire, mentor and motivate direct reports
  • Monitor and evaluate direct reports
  • Undertake and oversee annual performance targets and appraisals
  • Promote effective collaboration between finance staff and others in the organization pertaining to financial aspects of budgeting, monitoring and transaction processing


Requirements:

  • Possess a CPA designation
  • 5 years of experience in a finance or accounting supervisory role including responsibility for the full accounting cycle within an organization or business unit.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a finance or accounting supervisory role, demonstrating leadership and effective team management.
  • Proficiency in overseeing financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and treasury management.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and compliance with regulatory/statutory requirements, particularly in the non-profit or charity sector.
  • Experience in budget development, forecasting, and resource allocation aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Experience in managing the year-end audit process, coordinating with external auditors, and ensuring compliance with audit requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team, provide guidance, mentorship, and create a culture of continuous improvement and empowerment.
  • Ability to think strategically, innovate, and provide strategic advice on resource allocation, risks, and opportunities to the COO.
