Job Title:
Data Scientist with Karus.ai – AI Lending (Auto Finance)
Location:
Remote (U.S. Based) or Hybrid – Cincinnati, San Francisco, New York City
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and analytical Data Scientist to join our team and help design, implement, and optimize data-driven lending programs for our AI-powered auto lending platform. This role will play a central part in developing risk models, pricing algorithms, and underwriting logic that power our lending decisions.
You’ll collaborate with our current data science, engineering, and software dev teams to deliver scalable lending and risk management solutions that drive our core business.
Responsibilities:
● Design and implement machine learning models for credit decisioning, pricing, and risk assessment.
● Manage customer specific underwriting criteria which is layered on top of our AI decisioning.
● Analyze large datasets from credit applications, repayment behavior, and vehicle characteristics to identify trends and optimize lending outcomes.
● Incrementally retrain ML models used for our AI lending.
● Validate and monitor model performance over time.
● Build clean, scalable, and reproducible code pipelines for model training, testing, and deployment.
● Assist in building forward-looking borrower and vehicle valuation models based on macroeconomic indicators and alternative data
Qualifications:
● Strong Python skills required, with proficiency in data analysis, ML / AI libraries, and with varied data types.
● Demonstrated experience in finance, lending, or credit risk strongly preferred.
● Deep understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning, and supervised classification techniques.
● Experience working with real-world data, including missing data handling, feature engineering, and time series data.
● Experience working in a cloud environment for code deployments and file storage / retrieval, etc (GCP preferred).
● Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Education & Experience:
● Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Physics, Math, Computer Science),
OR
● Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience
