Role Description:

This is a remote role for the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position. The CFO is the senior executive responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of LEGACY, including budgeting, financial planning and organization, fundraising, investor relations, and compliance with industry regulations, while strategically aligning financial strategy with the company's research and development goals to drive long-term growth and profitability. 


As a C-Suite executive within LEGACY, qualified candidates will require extensive successful experience in high-level financial management, preferably in the life science or biotech industries. Qualified individuals will collaborate with other C-Suite executives, providing valuable legal insights that will fuel LEGACY’s successes and further the company’s reputation as a leader in the marketplace.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive financial strategies aligned with the company's overall life science business plan, including revenue projections, cost management, and capital allocation. 
  • Create and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial models to track performance against strategic objectives. 
  • Oversee the preparation of detailed financial reports and presentations for executive management and investors. 
  • Lead the process of raising capital through various funding rounds (venture capital, private equity, IPOs) by preparing investor presentations, managing due diligence processes, and maintaining relationships with potential investors. 
  • Communicate financial performance and strategic initiatives to current investors through regular reports and investor calls. 
  • Manage all aspects of the company's financial operations including accounting, treasury, and tax compliance. 
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of robust financial systems and controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations. 
  • Monitor cash flow and working capital management to optimize liquidity and financial health. 
  • Collaborate with R&D leadership to develop financial plans for clinical trials, product development, and regulatory submissions. 
  • Analyze the financial implications of R&D projects and provide insights to inform decision-making. 
  • Ensure R&D expenditures are aligned with budget and strategic goals. 
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant financial and life science regulations, including SEC reporting requirements, GAAP, and industry-specific compliance standards. 
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of internal controls to mitigate financial risks and ensure compliance with regulatory mandates. 
  • Build and lead a high-performing finance team, including accounting, treasury, and financial planning & analysis. 
  • Develop and mentor finance staff to enhance their skills and knowledge of the life science industry. 


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a CFO or similarly relevant experience in the life science industry, with a deep understanding of clinical trial finance, R&D budgeting, and regulatory compliance. 
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills to evaluate investment opportunities and assess financial risks. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate complex financial information to stakeholders. 
  • Proven track record in fundraising and managing investor relationships. 
  • Expertise in accounting principles, GAAP, and relevant regulatory requirements. 
  • Leadership abilities to manage a cross-functional finance team and build collaborative relationships with other departments. 


Pay:

As this role is part of a start-up, the comp structure will initially be based on a proportionate share of the company’s equity, followed later by a generous salary package. In addition to this, as a C-Suite executive, you will be classified as a company co-founder and general partner.
