Board Member

Off Assignment—a non-profit literary magazine founded in 2016—seeks four new members for its Board of Directors.

Best known for its popular “Letter to a Stranger” column and book, Off Assignment is at a moment of tremendous growth. We’re expanding our earned revenue through a fast-growing slate of online writing courses and deepening our impact as an outlet for personal, place-based stories. To support this next chapter, we’re looking for Board candidates with backgrounds in business, law, or direct marketing. That said, if you’re excited about what we’re doing, we encourage you to apply—regardless of professional background.

Off Assignment Board members will work closely with Executive Director Colleen Kinder, and have the chance to shape the future of a rising force in today’s literary landscape. The commitment is virtual and includes four meetings per year and roughly three hours of engagement per month. Our current Board includes:

– Amber Meadow Adams: Kanyen’kehaka essayist, fiction writer, and scholar

– Kathryn Besemer: high-tech and non-profit business executive

– Marcia DeSanctis: travel writer & former ABC News producer

– Vince Errico: digital marketing leader and Off Assignment co-founder

– Anne Fadiman: award-winning author and Yale University professor

To apply: Send a resumé and short note of interest to [email protected] by August 20. Applications will be reviewed by the Board and all applicants will be notified by the end of September.
