Backend Developer Intern
Backend Developer Intern — Remote | XR Solutions
Who we are
We build AR tools for industrial environments — factory floors, heavy machinery, complex maintenance workflows. Machine learning makes them smart, and our engineering team makes them reliable. We're a small company, which means less bureaucracy and more ownership. Everything we build goes to production and gets used by real people.
The role
You'll work alongside experienced developers to build and maintain the backend services behind our AR platform. This isn't a "shadow someone and take notes" kind of internship — you'll be writing production code from the start.
You'll work with:
- Node.js & Express for building REST APIs
- PostgreSQL & Sequelize for database design and queries
- AWS for cloud infrastructure and deployment
- Git (we use Bitbucket) for version control
What your week actually looks like
- Building and maintaining APIs that our AR applications rely on
- Designing database schemas and keeping queries fast
- Connecting backend services to ML pipelines and AR-facing systems
- Writing unit and integration tests — we don't ship what we can't verify
- Participating in code reviews, both giving and receiving feedback
- Picking up DevOps tasks as you get more comfortable with AWS
What we're looking for
Someone comfortable with Node.js, Express, and TypeScript. PostgreSQL experience helps — even if it's from personal or school projects. You should know your way around Git and understand the basics of how APIs work under the hood. If you've used AWS, CI/CD pipelines, or Sequelize before, that's a nice bonus, but we'll teach what's missing.
More than tools, we care that you're genuinely curious, write clean code, and learn quickly without needing everything spelled out.
This starts as an unpaid position. People who do strong, consistent work move into a paid role. We know unpaid is a big ask, so we take the experience side seriously — real production code, real mentorship, and real exposure to how scalable systems are built and maintained.
What you walk away with
- Backend experience on a live, shipped product — not a sandbox project
- Working knowledge of AWS, API design, and cloud architecture in production
- Solid testing and security fundamentals you'll use everywhere
- And if things go well — a paid role on the team
If you’re excited about this opportunity and eager to learn, please send your resume outlining your interest in the position. We look forward to helping you grow your skills and advance your career in backend development.
