ML / AI Researcher (Volunteer)
We are seeking a PhD candidate or PhD-level ML/AI Researcher to join an interdisciplinary research initiative exploring how AI can model human behavior and support decision-making in organizational contexts.
This is a part-time, volunteer research collaboration suitable for someone who wants to strengthen their academic portfolio, gain applied experience with behavioral datasets, or contribute to early-stage scientific innovation.
What you will work on
- Develop predictive and generative AI models that simulate human decision-making patterns
- Create specific AI components that represent human behavior in structured, learnable ways
- Apply unsupervised learning (clustering, archetypes, embeddings) to identify behavioral segments
- Support simulation experiments and evaluate intervention effects on digital human models
- Perform model evaluation, calibration, drift detection, and robustness testing
- Collaborate with behavioral scientists to translate psychological constructs into model features
- Contribute to research publications and technical reports
Required background
Must have:
- PhD or PhD candidate in Machine Learning, AI, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in Python
- Hands-on experience with ML/deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar)
- Solid understanding of model development, feature engineering, and evaluation
- Ability to work independently in a research-driven environment
Nice to have (optional):
- Experience with behavioral, psychological, organizational, or user datasets
- Familiarity with representation learning, sequence models, or generative modeling
- Interest in decision-making, cognitive modeling, or behavioral science
- Previous involvement in research publications
What we offer
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI + behavioral science research
- Potential for co-authorship on publications
- Close collaboration with behavioral scientists and decision theorists
- A flexible, remote-friendly structure that fits around your academic work
- Ability to help shape early behavioral modeling and decision-simulation tools
Time commitment
- Up to ~5 hours per week
- Flexible schedule
- Suggested minimum engagement: long enough to contribute meaningfully toward a shared research output (e.g., several months)
